EBC Journal: Day 4 & 5

Journal Entry Day 4:
Nambche Bazar 3400m to Tyengboche 3867m

The tea house at NB
Woke up to the sound of one of the army guys puking. A few of them are sick. The walls in the guesthouses are thin like paper so you can hear everything. My guide is sharing the room with me and is still asleep. Today will be a 6 hour hike. I wonder if I should have bought trekking poles? My guide says I should have gotten 1 at least.
Playing cards with the British Army at the tea house

Tired of walking uphill...
Today I had a walking song: 3 little birds by Bob Marely

I couldn't help it. The song was all I could think of while I walked endlessly uphill.  It made it easier to put one foot in front of the other.  We made it to Tembouche but there were no rooms available so pushed on to the next town and teahouse. The only people were myself and 2 guys from the U.S that are Jehovah's Witnesses.  They are nice.

This pic must have been taken at the start of the day

Yaks get right of way!

EBC Journal: Day 3

Journal Entry Day 3:
Nambche Bazar 3400m, Acclimatization Day and Day Hike

Acclimatization day in Nambche Bazar. We walk up to 3800m to see Everest peak and the town we will walk to tomorrow.

On the way to Everest View

First view of Everest

At the advice of my guide, I rent a winter sleeping bag and a down jacket. I heard rumours that there was snow at Everest Base Camp that prevented people from hiking on so I also bought the warmest socks I could find and another pair of longjohns. Hopefully the socks keep my feet warm while walking in the snow with my Nikes.  The British army instructors are nervous about my shoes and lack of "kit." I play cards with them till bed.  I feel good, dizzy/lightheaded at times and I notice my heart beats faster at rest but otherwise Im fine. I just cant sleep. I try but keep waking up.
