Wrapping up the season...

September in Canmore: rafting has finished for the season, friends have moved on to other places, the days are getting shorter and the leaves are changing and starting to fall from the trees... rumor has it ski season starts in less than a month!

Life has become pretty quiet....getting in a few last paddles on the kananaskis and kicking horse and have only one shift left at the running store and the bar. I am homeless again, but have been crashing at a friend's place for the last week while he's been on a roadtrip. Tomorrow I spend the day climbing the face of Ha-Ling (multi-pitch) then spend the night packing all my stuff back into my car to get ready for the drive home. Im a little lighter now: sold my kayak yesterday.

Wednesday I leave for my last multi-day raft/kayak trip out here. Thought I was gonna stick around a little longer and go on another trip, but decided to drive back to Ontario right after I get back to make it home in time for Thanksgiving. Can't wait to see my family, especially my little niece Madison who apparenlty is starting to walk now! Im seriously not looking forward to the drive back though...maybe Ill do a route thru the US to mix it up a bit?

So back to Ontario for me. And everyone keeps asking...what next? Honestly, Im not sure. Im not quite ready to settle down...depending on finances, was thinking about just finishing up the year travelling and starting my career in the new year. It all depends though. We'll see what happens....

See you all in October!

New adventures: north coast trail etc etc

Well, summer is winding down here for me in Alberta....which is funny since it seems that the summer weather has just arrived here! The last two weeks have been sunny and beautiful but laced with super chilly overnights and nearly frost-bitten mornings.

I leave in a few days with Lauren for our cross-BC adventure! We drive to Vancouver on Monday, head to Vancouver Island on Tuesday and start hiking the North Coast Trail on Wednesday morning! We will try to finish the trail in 5 days, then book it back to the mainland to make it to the Thompson River to catch the end of Chinook's staff trip. From there we hop to squamash for some climbing, then pass thru Revelstoke (climbing and friends...paddling?) and Golden (friends and ?paddling) on our way back to Canmore.

That will leave about a week or so of Canmore recreational time (including a bar staff trip) before I hop on the 10 day CanRock staff trip. They are doing 3 rivers--one is a multiday on the babine! Super excited! After that who knows? The boys have invited me on another trip after that but I dont have any details....all I know is that they leave mid Oct and once they are gone I am out of here too. One of the reasons I love it here so much is because its filled with people I have come to really care about. Once they leave, there wont be any heart left in Canmore for me.... back to Ontario.

I spent yesterday packing my stuff and returning my pimped out room back into an oil-stained garage. Said my first goodbye: to Adella, my old roommate from the czech republic who shared the crazy house with me for a month. She started a hiking trip with her boyfriend today and will be gone by the time I get back from my roadtrip. There will be a lot of goodbyes coming up in the next couple weeks..... but I know that some of them will only be temporary goodbyes until I can make it across the ocean (s)....
